One new hard drive later
December 31, 2007, 07:13 EST

Yeah, spent most of my day watching install screens. I was able to get my data off the old HD. It's not fried, just corrupt. Been seeing signs of this for months now, so I had plenty of stuff backed up.

Now I just need to get my copy of Photoshop.

I liked the Mako parts, because you get to drive around looking for flaming ragdoll XP piñatas.

I don't think I have anything to add about Mass Effect except that it's the only game I've played where you can have lesbian sex without meaning to.

I've been putting some stuff together about serialized stories, but it'll take a while to finish.

Son of a...

Got up today and the first thing I did was open my computer. Cat jumps up and steps on the keyboard. Blue screen of death.

The error I got was it said the hall.dll was gone or corrupt. Transplant the HD to Jes's computer and I find out that the whole damn Windows folder is gone. Not hidden or protected, gone.

My luck it's a virus. Reguardless, first the tablet issues, now I'm just completely out of commission.

Mass Effect

Pen found!

Originally I wanted to have a long winded quest dialog being spouted by the blue one. But I figure any words would only detract from the simple comic.

I did this comic because I recently finished that game. Filled my Morrowind urges quite well. Went the soldier route. I'm sure my past would show that as unsurprising. So this made the game rather easy.

Enthusiastic thumbs up on this one. My gripes are limited, such as how the controls for the Mako were annoying and the damned B button kicks you out of the universe map. (If you have interacted with that gorgeous map, you know what I'm talking about) I also was shocked to be treated to a satisfying ending. I guess Assassin's Creed left me wounded and expecting to be hurt again... Damn that was a shitty way to end that.

I'm sure if Matt had the urge he could give you a far more in depth view of the game, being I basically treated it as a shooter with character building.

Monday's update might be in jeopardy at the moment as I can't find my tablet pen[edited]. While it is true that the old Mac Hall comics were all mouse based, the tablet has become a integral part of my current work flow.

Convention schedule
December 20, 2007, 14:50 EST

We'll be attending Genericon in Troy, New York, Jan 25-27.

It's been a while since we went to a convention, but you can expect us to be the same attentive, effervescent people we always were.

As the banner above indicates, cutoffs for Christmas delivery from our store was the 5th of December.

The store is still open, but we almost certainly won't be able to deliver new orders in time for Christmas.

But whoever made the B button quit the map screen entirely, you have some apologizing to do.

I've been playing a lot of Mass Effect lately.

Actually, I've been doing a lot of staying up until 3 a.m. playing Mass Effect, because that's the kind of game it is.

But anyway, in this game you play a guy gallivanting around the galaxy fixing problems and kicking ass. You can visit hundreds of planets, and while you can't land on most of them, you get a very detailed description of each one.

I love these.

There's amazing stuff out there in our own solar system, like the volcanos of Io, Titan's lakes of methane and snows of organic material and the almost-destroyed Mimas. It's obvious someone really into astronomy put a lot of work into the descriptions of all the Mass Effect planets, using the real world as a starting point.

Extraterrestrial geology isn't everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure, but I appreciate it. And then they mix in some science fiction, and you get to stand on a moon, looking up at a gas giant covered in floating bioluminescent bacteria, all continually racing around the planet trying to escape the sunrise... well. That's not something you see every day.

I complain about the lack of art fundamentals at my art school a lot. But at least I left with skills with my degree.

However, I can empathize with the rage this guy must feel against his old school. Still, funny as hell.

Randomness
December 10, 2007, 04:19 EST

Easily the best 1200 Job Points I've ever spent.

Some comics aren't amusing to everyone. In this case, I know 3 people that will get this joke total. For the rest, enjoy some stupid faces.

So over the last month I've been coming to a realization. I've stopped furthering my art skills. This bothers me to know end. It seems since I left school, I've stopped searching out new art styles and studying them. Sure my technical and detail skills have jumped leaps and bounds, but it feels like I lack a base, or something more fundimental that prevents my work.

This came up when I noticed how much I was getting frustrated trying to get what was in my head on paper. At first I thought it was my tools at fault. While that may be a factor, I think my problem is more personal. So I've decided to start working on this. I think my biggest fear now, is that I will fail.

So now I'm once again collecting art. Particular ones close to my own style so that I have a starting point. The problem is that this won't be a fast process. So my frustration will continue. So emo-Ian will continue to be emo. =_=

Till next post.

A while ago, I mentioned I was doing some freelance work for Kwanzoo.com, and they were doing an iPhone raffle for referrals. Well, so many people signed up through my link that I won the thing, so thanks to everyone who did.

Pictures of me licking it to follow.

One other thing...
November 26, 2007, 05:35 EST

...On my vacation I played through Assassin's Creed. So, uh, did I not get an ending with my copy? Yes I watched through the credits.

I had fun with the game despite some of it's questionable choices in game play, but still...That's the ending? I'd expect that kind of ending from Halo 2.

*grumbles* I'm gonna go play some Rock Band. Crazy-Hobo-Ian Rock Band avatar, time for you to play some guitar.
